Hinoki Products : More About Horses

More About Horses
Here are more tips on caring for horses.

View the index page

Did you know . . .

There are chemical-free products that work!

You do not have to use harsh chemicals on your horses to keep them safe from flies, fleas, and other pests. Hinoki FLy Repellent offers DEET-free protection!  This is great if you have children or smaller pets in the area who might have a negative reaction to other chemically-based repellents.

Have you read the WARNING LABELS on most commercial repellents for horses?  Yee gads!

Do You Know . . .

What Causes Lameness?

"Foot problems account for 90% of all lameness. Most are due, at least in part, to a lack of care by the owner, such as leaving shoes on too long, not picking out the feet regularly, and overfeeding. Foot problems often affect more than one foot at a time, because all the feet undergo the same stresses or neglect. There is no point in treating the foot that appears to be lame, only for the horse to go lame on another foot shortly afterward. It is better to check all the feet and learn the extent ofthe problem at the start, then treat it as a whole." Plants Poisonous to Horses

There are a number of common plants that are dangerous for horses. They include FOXGLOVE, GROUND IVY, HEMLOCK, HORSETAIL, LAUREL, LABURNUM, OAK and ACORNS, RAGWEED, and YEW to name a few. Dangerous plants should be pulled out (root and all) rather than just cut back.
